Yesterday a couple of friends, who are also local businesswomen, came to my house and we had a co-working day.
All three of us are self employed and work by ourselves, usually from home. Despite my husband joking that it was a “glorified coffee morning” it was so worthwhile! We caught up on our blogging, invoicing, expenses, marketing etc. and our usual client work too.
On the whole, I love the peace and quiet of my office where I can switch off to the outside world. However, it made a nice change to have some colleagues for a day, around my dining table, where we could share tips, bounce ideas off each other and talk about the niggling little things which bother us!
There are some great organisations all over the North East (and beyond) who provide a service like this which also give you the opportunity to network and meet new people – but why not do this as well?
You don’t need to have a super-cool workspace like a Google office either; as long as you’ve got decent wifi and plenty of teabags why not create your own group? If you know each other well enough you could even wear your onesies – why not? We could all do with an admin day now and then. Our plan is to meet up every 6 weeks or so and we’ll take it in turns as “hostess”. This is one resolution I really might stick with this year!
